The Book
Rochester 585 / 716 is a portrait of Rochester America in 1000 photos taken by 10 magnum photographers.
In 2012 the Eastman Kodak Company declared bankruptcy. The company had had up until than a big impact on the city and provided for many citizens a source of income. The photographers took photos of the city, the residents and everything that was happening in city at a time of transition. The work is described as a documentary of the city and it's residents in a time of transition. Company's like The Visual Workshop, George Eastman House and Rochester Institute of Technology all have been photographed. All institutes that have something to do with picture making.
The Process
Since the book, Rochester 585 / 716, contains 1000 images of the city Rochester and its residents I had to prepare all of them for printing. It was a challenge for me to prepare all these images in a limited amount of time. I got a box on my desk containing all 1000 print. It felt like a true treasure trove or an early Christmas present!
However, I had to make all these images print ready, which meant scanning them in and reproducing the colours. The most challenging part of it all was to fit in the given time frame. Organising is as much a part of my trade as well as the more photographic and printing skills. This job demanded all at the same time of me. A challenge and an honour to be able to have worked on this book!
