The Book
Internat is shot entirely at a maidens Internat in the Ukraine. The girls who live here are seemingly forgotten by the world. These girls were labeled as disabled when they were young and grew up in this internat on the edge of a forest in western Ukraine. The girls are not allowed to leave the presmisses and spend their day in front of the concrete wall surrounding their facility. This project is meant to explore freedom of imagination and the construction of normal female behaviour. The girls have been photographed over the span of two years.
The Process
Internat is the third book I'm doing with Carolyn. I help her tone her images to create the best possible representation of her intentions in RGB. After that I worked on the conversions that match the press and the paper. Meanwhile Carolyn, Syb and I have had many discussions about the final execution of the design and ended up with this format. In addition to helping her with toning her images I also did quality management during the production. It is always a pleasure to work with Carloyn!
